Texas State Fair in Pictures 2010
>>>>> |
Today as I experienced the Texas State Fair located in Dallas Texas, I realized why I love to go to State Fairs. I have been going to State Fairs since I was young. We had a State Fair in Colorado that I thought was great, until I went to this fair here in Texas. We went every year when I was growing up. We always went as a family, and after I got to the driving years, I went with friends. We went to the New Mexico State Fair too, and it was great. Of course that all changed when I came to Texas.
When my girls were little we went to the Texas State Fair with the school. I was a chaperon, and that experience was life changing. I saw children that had never seen a farm animal or a tractor light up. This Fair was so much better than the two I'd grown up going to, that we made the Fair a yearly tradition. It was so much a tradition that as my girls were going to college in other states, they tried to come home for at least one visit to the Texas State Fair.
Now that they are back in Texas, we have continued to enjoy the State Fair together.
Today as I walked around and people watched, I noticed that when you come to the fair, you really come as a person ready to enjoy the experience. Most people are dressed in comfortable shoes, shorts, sleeveless shirts, and a lot of hats. You also see some people who look like they just came off the farm or ranch. The fair is not a place that you come with stiletto heels because you will be in severe pain in no time. Fairs are for average people. There are probably a lot of people with money, but you really can't tell because everyone is dressed in very casual clothes. It's kind of like you know that it doesn't really matter if you put on make up and fix up your hair because you are going to sweat off the make up and your hair will be a wreck because of the heat too.
When you go for as many years as we have gone, you know what you are going to do, and what shows you are going to see. You know that you are going to try to eat some of the well known fried foods. You know what vendors are located in what part of the fair. You know that you are going to see lots of stuff, and view lots of people.
Today we had visitors from Kansas who had driven to Texas to experience the fair. We experienced all they things we do every year, but this year it was very humid. I don't think we've ever gone when the humidity was as high as it was today. For the young couple from Kansas, I saw the heat and humidity sucking the life out of them. They were ready to go before I was so the kids went home, and mamma stayed. I didn't want to deal with traffic, and I there were a few other things I wanted to do so I stayed until I had my fill. During this alone time at the fair, I do a lot of people watching and thinking. State Fairs in the US are a microcosm of normal everyday people. I think politicians would gain lots of insight to the core of American if they went incognito to a state fair. You would see young and old, rich and poor, pretty and ugly, tears and laughter, and have experiences that will last a life time. Politicians go to a fair before the November elections. . . . . visit the regular people. . . . see the faces. . . . humble yourselves. . . .
our country needs honest, humble, and faithful servants of the people.
God Bless You all and God Bless us all too.
Ciao
